Atsushi Miyauchi is officially stepping into the role of Borma for the new Ghost in the Shell anime

Section 9 Gets Tougher: Atsushi Miyauchi Joins The Ghost in the Shell Cast
The latest installment of THE GHOST IN THE SHELL just leveled up. We’ve finally got confirmation on who is voicing the team’s heavy hitter, Borma, and it’s none other than Atsushi Miyauchi.
If the name rings a bell, you’ve probably heard him as Ash Stahl in Metallic Rouge. Borma—the iconic, shaved-headed, prosthetic-eyed specialist of Section 9—officially made his debut in the series' second episode, "SUPER SPARTAN ii + JUNK JUNGLE i," which dropped back on July 14.
Stepping Into the Shadows
Miyauchi didn’t hold back when expressing how much this role means to him. He noted that stepping into the world of such a massive, legendary franchise is a genuine honor. Describing Borma as a "man of few words," Miyauchi explained that he wanted to capture the character’s unique weight and quiet intensity. Borma isn't just a background player; he’s the anchor for cyber-intel and explosives, working from the shadows to keep the team moving. Miyauchi’s goal? To make sure his performance feels like a whisper directly to the audience’s own "ghost."
New Art and a Killer Crew
To celebrate the second episode, the team released a fresh end-card illustration, and it’s a total treat. The piece was handled by the brilliant Ilya Kuvshinov, whose work on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 already gave us a taste of how well they understand this aesthetic.
It’s no surprise the show feels as polished as it does, considering the absolute powerhouse team over at Science SARU. Directed by Moko-chan—who you might know from their work on DAN DA DAN—with scripts by To Enjo and character designs by Shuhei Handa, this production is firing on all cylinders. The soundscape is just as impressive, featuring music directed by Taisei Iwasaki, working alongside Ryo Konishi and YUKI KANESAKA.
The Hunt for the Puppet Master
In case you need a refresher on the stakes, we are dropped into a 2029 Japan where the digital network is global, yet the nation-state is still clawing for control. We’re following the origin of the "Shell Squad"—Motoko Kusanagi’s elite unit—as they transition from a standard combat team into the legendary Public Security Section 9. While they juggle international conspiracies and high-stakes cyber warfare, the massive mystery of the "Puppet Master" looms over everything.
If you haven't caught the latest episodes yet, now is the perfect time to dive in. Between the high-octane action and the deep philosophical questions the series is famous for, it’s shaping up to be a defining moment for the cyberpunk genre.
