The World’s Strongest Rearguard just dropped its opening and ending sequences and the animation is top tier

The World’s Strongest Rearguard: Check Out the Epic New Openings and Endings!
The summer 2026 anime season is officially in full swing, and if you’ve caught the premiere of The World’s Strongest Rearguard, you’ve likely been jamming out to its catchy new tracks. Since the show hit screens in Japan on July 5, fans have been buzzing about the music. Luckily, the official music videos for both the opening and ending themes are now live on YouTube!
A High-Energy Debut
Kicking things off is the opening theme, “license,” performed by the Kyoto-based rock band Redhair Rosy. This marks the group's first-ever foray into the world of anime soundtracks, and they’ve certainly made an impression. Their lead vocalist, Ryosei, shared that writing the track was all about finding strength in companionship. He drew inspiration from the idea of navigating a labyrinthine city, mirroring how Arihito and his party tackle impossible battles by leaning on one another. You can find the song as part of their major debut double A-side digital single, Kakeru / license, which dropped on July 3.
Reflective Vibes for the Ending
On the flip side, the ending theme, “Owaranai Yoru no Mamorikata” (A Way to Guard the Endless Night), brings a more emotional tone. Performed by the duo Inner Journey, this is also their first anime tie-in project. Guitarist and vocalist Sara Komoshita mentioned that she was deeply moved by a specific line from the original light novel: “This is a life that was finally granted to you once more. Please, treasure it.” She channeled that sentiment, along with Arihito’s supportive nature, directly into the melody. It’s a track meant to make you think about your own choices and how you live your life.
The Story So Far
For those still catching up, The World’s Strongest Rearguard is an isekai journey that puts a fresh spin on the genre. The story follows Arihito Atobe, an overworked salaryman who wakes up in the Labyrinth Country after a tragic accident. Instead of the usual OP hero tropes, he’s gifted the rare "Rearguard" class. While it sounds like a support role, he quickly discovers it’s a powerhouse of attack, defense, and healing, especially when he’s got his squad by his side.
The anime is being brought to life by studio MAHO FILM under the direction of Yuji Yanase. If you want to see the action for yourself, you can catch the series streaming now on Crunchyroll across most global territories.
