Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Check Out These Stunning New Theme Songs!
The summer 2026 anime season is officially in full swing, and one show is already turning heads with its incredible soundtrack. Following the big premiere of Though I Am an Inept Villainess, fans have been treated to the full music videos for both the opening and ending theme songs. If you’ve been loving the vibe of this show, you’re definitely going to want to check these out.
A Massive Opening Track from milet
The opening theme, titled "Sunny," comes from none other than the powerhouse singer-songwriter milet. If you’ve watched heavy hitters like Demon Slayer or Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, you already know she has a knack for delivering emotional, high-impact anthems. "Sunny" dropped digitally on July 12, and it’s already making waves.
Commenting on the track, milet shared, "I want to see this world through your eyes." She noted how deeply the body-swapping dynamic between Reirin and Keigetsu resonated with her, adding that she wanted to capture that unique perspective of two characters finding their own answers together. It’s a beautiful, catchy song that perfectly sets the tone for the series.
Rokudenashi Brings the Feels for the Ending
While the opening gets you hyped, the ending theme brings all the feels. Titled "Houkiboshi" (Shooting Star), the track is performed by the music project Rokudenashi, which features the talented vocalist Ninjin. Even cooler? The track was written and composed by Eve, the superstar behind the iconic Jujutsu Kaisen opening, "Kaikai Kitan."
The team at Rokudenashi explained that the song was specifically crafted to explore the inner conflict and determination of Keigetsu as she navigates her complicated new life. It’s a track about moving forward despite the odds, making it the perfect cool-down after an intense episode.
What’s the Show About?
If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, Though I Am an Inept Villainess is based on the light novel series by Satsuki Nakamura. It’s directed by Mitsue Yamazaki over at the legendary Doga Kobo—the studio behind fan favorites like Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle.
The story follows a classic body-swap trope with a dark, court-politics twist. After the jealous "court sewer rat" Keigetsu uses magic to trade bodies with the prince's favored lady, Reirin, the two find their destinies completely upended. Reirin suddenly has to deal with a looming execution, while Keigetsu realizes that life in the palace isn't exactly the fairytale she expected. You can catch the show streaming now on Crunchyroll if you want to see how this high-stakes drama unfolds!
