Get ready for January 2027 because Kizuguchi to Hotai is finally getting the anime treatment

Unlikely Duo: 'Kizuguchi to Hotai' Gets a January 2027 Anime Adaptation
If you have been keeping an eye on the rising hits over on Kodansha’s Comic Days app, you probably already know about Kizuguchi to Hotai (Wound & Bandage). If you haven't checked it out yet, you’ve got plenty of time to catch up, because Umihoshi Nanai’s unique series is officially making the jump to the small screen! The anime is locked in for a January 2027 premiere, and the newly launched official website is already teasing what’s to come.
A Solid Team Behind the Scenes
J.C. Staff is taking the lead on this one, and the production team looks pretty promising. Miyuki Ishida, who you might know from I.CINNAMOROLL, is stepping into the director’s chair. The script is being handled by Susumu Yamakawa, the talent behind the hilarious The Way of the Househusband, while Natsuki Oyama—known for their work on Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?—is bringing those character designs to life. It’s a group with a lot of range, which fits the oddball dynamic of this story perfectly.
What Is It All About?
The series, which only launched in August 2024, has been picking up steam quickly with four volumes already out and a fifth arriving in Japan this week. The premise is a bit of a curveball. It centers on Go Kiritani, a young yakuza member who draws the short straw and gets stuck babysitting the boss’s daughter, Riyo Washizu.
Riyo might look like your average kid at first glance, but she has a very specific, slightly unsettling hobby: she loves finding the cracks in tough guys. She is obsessed with breaking down the "weak side" of people who are supposed to be strong, and poor Go is about to be her primary project. The teaser visuals released today give a great look at that shift in her personality, and honestly? It’s a vibe.
Mark your calendars for early 2027. We’ve got a while to wait, but this looks like one to keep on your radar as the premiere date approaches.
