If you’ve been following the summer 2026 anime season, there’s a good chance you’re already obsessed with the opening theme for Goodbye, Lara. The legendary pop-rock duo Ikimonogakari just dropped the official music video for their latest single, "Sayonara Lara," and it is an absolute must-watch.

Known for iconic tracks that defined generations of anime fans—from the high-energy vibes of Naruto Shippuden’s "Blue Bird" to the emotional weight of Bleach’s "HANABI"—Yoshiki Mizuno and Kiyoe Yoshioka are back at it again. This time, they’ve crafted a track that feels perfectly in tune with the melancholic, ethereal atmosphere of their new project.

A Story of Second Chances

For those who haven't jumped into the series yet, Goodbye, Lara is a modern twist on the classic Little Mermaid myth. The story follows a mermaid princess who gambled everything for love 200 years ago, only to end up as sea foam. Miraculously, she wakes up in modern-day Lake Biwa. Now, she has one last shot at love, and the stakes couldn't be higher. With Kinema Citrus behind the animation, the visual quality is exactly what you’d expect from the studio—stunning.

Regarding the new song, the duo shared a deeply reflective message. They noted that the track is about the weight of our choices: the courage to embrace destiny, the pain of parting ways, and the quiet peace that follows when the dust finally settles. It’s a song about finding your own path, and you can tell they poured their hearts into getting the vibe just right for Lara’s journey.
