Noriko Hidaka and Misato Fukuen join the Hono no Tokyujo: Dodge Danko voice cast lineup

A Legendary Voice Returns: Dodge Danko Brings Back a Classic Icon

If you grew up watching the original Dodge Danpei, your ears are in for a serious treat. The new Hono no Tokyujo: Dodge Danko anime is hitting us right in the nostalgia with its latest casting announcement. By the time the second episode rolls around, the series isn't just delivering high-stakes dodgeball action—it’s bringing a massive piece of anime history along for the ride.

A Full-Circle Moment for Noriko Hidaka

The biggest news is the return of Noriko Hidaka. Longtime fans will remember her as the iconic voice of Danpei Ichigeki in the 1991 classic. She’s officially joined the cast of the new sequel to voice Danko’s mother, Misato Ichigeki. But she isn't stopping there. Hidaka is also stepping back into her original role to voice Danpei during flashback sequences, and she’s even lending her talents as the narrator for this new generation.

It’s rare to see a voice actor so deeply connected to a franchise spanning over three decades, and the team behind the show is clearly leaning into that legacy. To mark the occasion, original manga creator Tetsuhiro Koshita even shared a special illustration celebrating the new cast members.

The Family Tree Grows

It’s not just about the mother, though. Joining the cast alongside Hidaka is Misato Fukuen, who will be voicing Haruka Ichigeki—Danko’s grandmother. It’s fun to see how the production is bridging the gap between the 90s classic and the current sequel, which has been running on the Weekly CoroCoro Comic website since late 2022.

Behind the scenes, studio CUE is pulling out all the stops to make this reboot feel special. With Hiroshi Ikehata (who worked on WITCH WATCH) in the director’s chair and Kazuho Hyodo handling series composition, there is a lot of talent pushing this project forward. Add in character designs by Narihito Sekikawa and a fresh score from Yasunori Iwasaki and Ren Tsukagoshi, and it’s clear this isn’t just a quick cash-in. It’s a love letter to a series that defined a generation of sports anime.

Whether you're a die-hard veteran of the original manga or a newcomer just looking for some intense, super-powered dodgeball, Dodge Danko is quickly becoming a must-watch. If you haven't jumped in yet, now is the perfect time to catch up and hear a piece of history in action.
