Get ready for a fantasy series that’s as adorable as it is dangerous. The official channels just dropped a brand-new teaser trailer and a stunning visual for Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat, and it looks like we finally have a release date. Mark your calendars, because this pint-sized vampire’s journey hits our screens in January 2027.

The trailer gives us our first real look at the protagonist, Mercedes Grunewald. If you’re wondering who’s bringing this determined little vampire to life, it’s none other than Anna Nagase, known for her stellar work on Akane-banashi. She’s stepping into the role of Mercedes, and based on the early footage, she’s capturing that perfect mix of childhood innocence and fierce survival instinct.

Who’s Behind the Magic?

The production is shaping up to be quite a ride. The anime is being helmed by director Kunihisa Sugishima—you might recognize his name from the second season of I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level. He’s working with Studio Teddy to bring the world of Mercedes and the Waning Moon to life. As for the rest of the core team, Jun Kumagai is handling series composition, while Nami Shoyama is in charge of character designs. To top it all off, the soundtrack will be composed by the duo of R・O・N and Shuhei Mutsuki.

Survival is the Name of the Game

If you haven't checked out the light novels by Fire head and KeG, you’re in for a unique treat. The story follows young Mercedes, who is born into a noble vampire family but knows the writing is on the wall: she’s destined to be cast aside. With her mother lacking marketable skills and their loyal maid getting up in years, the family’s future looks bleak. But Mercedes isn't the type to sit around and wait for disaster.

Deciding that she needs to become the breadwinner, she starts training as a dungeon crawler while she’s still practically a kindergartner. Since she’s a vampire, she’s got a massive head start on strength, and she’s determined to leave her past life of unfulfillment behind. She’s heading into the dungeons not just to survive, but to reclaim her future. It’s a classic underdog story, just with a lot more fangs and dungeon loot.
