SPYAIR Drops High-Octane "Awake" Music Video for The Exiled Heavy Knight Anime

If you've been keeping up with the summer 2026 anime season, there is a good chance you’ve already had the opening theme for The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System stuck in your head. The rock icons over at SPYAIR just dropped the official music video for their latest single, "Awake," and it is every bit as energetic as you would expect from the band behind legendary tracks for Haikyu!! and Gintama.

A Fresh Era for SPYAIR

SPYAIR has been a staple in the anime music scene for years, but the group is currently firing on all cylinders with their new lineup. Since vocalist YOSUKE joined the crew in 2023 alongside UZ, MOMIKEN, and KENTA, the band has kept their signature high-energy rock sound while bringing a fresh perspective to their music. Whether you know them from their work on Bleach or their more recent contributions like Blue Miburo, it is clear that they still know how to craft an absolute banger.

"Awake" officially hit streaming platforms on July 3, but fans who prefer to own a physical copy have something to look forward to. The CD single is slated for an August 5 release and will include a special live version of the song recorded during their concert at LINE CUBE SHIBUYA. It’s a great way to catch the raw energy of the band if you can't make it to a show in person.

What’s the Show About?

In case you haven't checked out the anime yet, The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. It follows the story of Elymas Edvaughn, a guy who gets the short end of the stick when he’s labeled with the "defective" Heavy Knight class and kicked out of his prestigious family. The twist? He suddenly remembers a past life and realizes he’s actually trapped in a VR game he used to dominate.

With director Katsumasa Yokomine and the visual team at studio GoHands at the helm, the show is a fun ride about someone using "pro gamer" knowledge to flip the script on his so-called weak abilities. If you haven't given it a watch, now is the perfect time to catch up—just make sure you pay close attention to that opening sequence!
